ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY TOUR BY OFFICERS OF THE GHANA ARMED FORCES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE (JUNIOR DIVISION) TO THE AHANTA WEST MUNICIPALITY ON THE TOPIC; CHIEFTAINCY & BENEFITS OF OIL DISCOVERY AND ELECTRONIC TANKAS (E-TANKAS).

The Ahanta West Municipal Assembly on Tuesday, 4th April, 2023 was honoured to be selected to play host to an Environmental Tour by the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (Junior Division).

The study tour by the Officers of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College aimed at assessing some Emerging and Environmental issues in the region and Ahanta West was chosen as a point of call. This important event was under the theme “Chieftaincy activities and their effects on the people and Electronic Tankas (E-Tankas)”.

The Hon. Municipal Chief Executive of the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly, John Agyare in his address touched on pertinent issues ranging from chieftaincy issues, Electronic Tankas (E-Tankas), the benefits of the oil discovery among others.  He also entreated everyone to fully participate in the roll out of the E-Tankas exercise to ensure its resounding success.

The MCE acknowledged the efforts of the MUSEC for their timely intervention in settling disputes which has ensured relative peace and order for the citizenry to go about their daily duties without any fear. He further urged all relevant stakeholders concerning the oil discovery to come on board and execute their social responsibilities to the core so as to build the Municipality for all as desired.

SUMMARY OF THE MUNICIPAL PLANNING COORDINATING UNIT MEETING HELD ON WEDNESDAY 29TH MARCH, 2023

The Municipal Assembly is mandated by the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) through the Municipal Planning Coordinating Unit to hold quarterly meetings to discuss issues that are crucial to the development of the Municipality.

In attendance were the Municipal Coordinating Director, a Traditional Authority, Representatives of CSO’s and NGO’s, Heads of Departments and Units among other officials

ASSESSMENT BY WESTERN REGIONAL COORDINATING COUNCIL

The monitoring team for the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) led by Mr. Daniel Adjei, Regional Chief Budget Analyst, accompanied by Madam Daphne F. Kemah, Director of Administration and Mr. Emmanuel Bonney, Internal Auditor, paid a working visit to the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly on Thursday, 16th March, 2023. The team had an entrance conference with Management and staff of the Assembly to discuss the purpose of their visit which was to assess the Municipality on its readiness towards the evaluation of the 2022 Performance Contract signed between the Hon. Municipal Chief Executive and the Municipal Coordinating Director.

The WRCC team was to pave way for officials from Local Government Services to undertake the 2022 District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT) exercise.
They went through documents from Central Administration, Budget, Finance, Development Planning, Physical Planning, Environmental Health, Social Welfare and Community Development, Works and Internal Audit.

After all documents were duly assessed, an exit conference was held to give a feedback of their findings. They applauded the Central Administration for a good job done and appealed to the other departments to address the lapses that were identified.
The MCE thanked the team for embarking on this assessment. He also thanked the staff for a good job done and urged all to ensure that the necessary corrections be made.

AHANTA WEST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HELD A STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

As part of the implementation of the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme, the Hon. Municipal Chief Executive of the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly John Agyare held a stakeholder consultative meeting for anticipated affected persons of the reconstruction of the 4km Agona Nkwanta- Domeabra and the Damtse Junction to Damtse Community Road on Monday 30th January, 2023.

In attendance were the Presiding Member, Municipal Coordinating Director, The Deputy Director, The Municipal Planning Officer, The Environmental Health Officer among other officials

It would be recalled that on Monday 4th July, 2022 a similar engagement was held to inform citizens with shops and houses along the said roads about the introduction of the programme and how they could contribute their quota toward its implementation.

It was revealed that the necessary processes which needed to be followed had been done and the markings process was to begin on Tuesday 31st January 2023,to ascertain the houses and shops which needed to be relocated before the project commenced in order not to trigger any safeguard issues.
