AHANTA WEST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY RECEIVES PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT AWARD

Ahanta West Leads Western Region in Birth Registration Performance – 2025

The Ahanta West Births and Deaths Registry has secured the 1st position in the Western Region Birth Registration League Table for the period January to December 2025, demonstrating exceptional performance in vital events registration.

According to the Regional performance report, the Municipality exceeded its annual target of 3,818 birth registrations by recording a total of 4,329 registrations, achieving an impressive coverage rate of 113%. This outstanding achievement places Ahanta West ahead of all other districts in the Region, including Prestea Huni Valley (109%), Tarkwa Nsuaem (108%), and Wassa Amenfi West (100%).

The 2025 league table further indicates that the Western Region as a whole recorded 44,770 birth registrations out of a target of 51,448, representing an overall regional coverage of 87%. Despite varied performances across districts, Ahanta West’s results stand out as a benchmark for effective service delivery in birth registration.

This remarkable performance can be attributed to intensified public education on the importance of birth registration, strategic collaboration with health facilities, and the successful implementation of mobile registration exercises in hard-to-reach communities within the Municipality. These interventions significantly improved access to registration services and enhanced timely reporting of births.

The Births and Deaths Registry in Ahanta West, as a decentralized department under the Municipal Assembly, continues to play a critical role in providing legal identity for children, generating reliable vital statistics, and supporting planning and policy formulation at both local and national levels.

Management of the Department has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining this achievement by expanding outreach programmes, strengthening stakeholder collaboration, and promoting early registration of births across all communities.

The Municipality remains dedicated to ensuring that every child born in Ahanta West is registered, protected, and recognized under the law, in line with national efforts to achieve universal birth registration and improved civil registration and vital statistics systems.
