In a remarkable effort to preserve and promote the rich linguistic heritage of the Ahanta people, Hon. Mavis Kuukua Bissue MP for Ahanta West Constituency launched the Ahanta Language Renaissance Project on Friday,4th July,2025 at the Municipal Assembly forecourt, a visionary initiative aimed at revitalizing the Ahanta language and reinforcing its relevance in modern times.

The project seeks to document, teach, and promote the Ahanta language through a series of community-driven activities including language classes, publications, radio programs, and cultural events. At its core, the project envisions a future where the Ahanta language is not only spoken at home but also taught in schools, featured in media, and used as a tool of identity and pride for the Ahanta people.

Speaking at the official launch of the initiative, Hon. Mavis Kuukua Bissue emphasized the urgency of preserving indigenous languages in the face of globalization. “Our language is our soul. If we lose it, we lose a vital part of who we are as Ahantas. This project is not just about language—it is about identity, history, and continuity,” she stated.

The project has garnered the support of Traditional authorities, Educators, Linguists, and Youth Leaders across the Ahanta Communities. Key components of the project include:

Community Language Workshops to teach reading and writing in Ahanta.
Compilation of Ahanta Proverbs, Folktales, and Oral Histories for preservation and learning.
Production of Ahanta Language Books and Audio Learning Materials for schools and households.
Establishment of a Digital Ahanta Dictionary and Mobile App for ease of learning.
Ahanta Cultural Heritage Festivals, celebrating language through music, storytelling, and drama.

Hon. Mavis Kuukua Bissue also called on the Ministry of Education and relevant stakeholders to support the integration of the Ahanta language into the basic school curriculum, especially in communities where it is predominantly spoken.

The Ahanta Language Renaissance Project is a powerful step toward cultural revival, giving voice to a language that has long served as a vessel for wisdom, tradition, and community life. With unwavering leadership and collective effort, the project is poised to make a lasting impact—ensuring that the Ahanta language not only survives but thrives for generations to come.Below were pictures of the event:
