ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH UNIT OF AHANTA WEST ORGANIZED TRAINING FOR FOOD AND DRINK HANDLERS AT ABURA COMMUNITY CENTER

The Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit of the Ahanta West Municipal as part of ensuring that Food Handlers within the Municipality handles food under strict hygienic conditions organized a day training programme on the theme “Food Sanitation; the role of the food handler” at the Abura Community Center on Friday, 20th May, 2022.

Fifty-Four (54) participants from different chop bars, restaurants and school feeding catering services attended this all-important training.  Also, in attendance were nine Environmental Health Officers and a secretary from the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly. 

The Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Ted Tettey who facilitated the training briefed participants on their role as major stakeholders of the food industry in ensuring food sanitation.  Issues discussed at the training included;

  1. Capacity building for restaurants and chop bar operators. In building their capacity, Participants were educated on personal hygiene, care in shopping and storing food stuffs, care in preparation of food as well as care in serving food.
  2. Laws regulating the food industries. Food Handlers were briefed on the laws that governs food safety and the implications of violating those laws.
  3. Practical demonstration of hand washing techniques. Participants were taken through a practical session of proper handwashing in achieving food safety.

Participants were thankful to the Assembly for organizing such an educative programme for them and suggested the Assembly organizes same periodically.
