The Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit of the Ahanta West Municipal as part of ensuring that Food Handlers handles food under strict hygienic conditions is organizing a ONE DAY training programme on the theme “Food Sanitation; the role of the food handler” at the Municipal Assembly Hall on 2^nd November, 2022 for Food and Drink Handlers within the Municipality.

The Agricultural Department of Ahanta West Municipal Assembly on Tuesday 20^th September,2022  distributed seedlings to farmers at the Assembly grounds.The programme is known as ‘PERD’ Planting for Export and Rural Development, as one of the Government of Ghana’s Flagship Programme where farmers are supplied with high yielding improve seedlings for planting to improve farmers livelihood and their standard of living.

This year, the Department was supplied with 40,000 Oil Palm Seedlings and was distributed among 647 farmers (M – 453 & F- 194). The Department also distributed 7,000 coconut seedlings to 45 farmers (M – 38 & F – 9)

The Ahanta West Municipal Assembly held it’s second ordinary meeting of the third session of the eight Assembly on Wednesday and Thursday 24th and 25th, August, 2022 at the Municipal Assembly Hall.

The general Assembly which is the highest decision – making body of the municipality has a core mandate to perform, deliberative, legislative, and executive functions under the leadership of the Presiding Member. The meeting was well attended by various Stakeholders including Assembly Members, Heads of Decentralized and Non-Decentralized Departments as well as Heads of the Various Security Agencies in the Municipality.

In attendance was the Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyera Darko – Mensah and other official of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC)

Addressing the house, the Regional Minister stressed on the need to improve revenue collection and the need to encourage the youth to venture into skill based entrepreneurship. He further addressed issues of road construction within the municipality and assured the House of government’s commitment towards the road contracts awarded.

Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. John Agyare, through his Sessional Address bemoaned issues of Chieftaincy and land disputes plaguing the municipality.

He however, assured members of the efforts of the MUSEC and REGSEC in addressing these issues, urging all to support the Police and other security agencies with information to clamp down on the nefarious activities resulting in conflicts.

He further informed the house of the ban on the celebration of Kundum Festival by the people of Dixcove. Touting the gains made by the Assembly the following were mentioned:

1. Supply and distribution of 200 pieces of dual desks and motor bike to the Education Directorate.

2. Completion of a KG Block at Adjua

3. Commencement of phase 2 of the GrEEn project (Market Shed)

4. Enrollment unto the Ghana Secondary Cities Programme (GSCSP)

Again , the Assembly in collaboration with Zoomlion launched the Waste Management Improvement Project as of the President’s vision of making sure every house hold gets a bin as part of the one million bin project to help improve sanitation. Below were pictures of the event.

The Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur paid a working visit to the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly as part of his visit to six (6) selected MMDA in the Western Region. The call was to provide the Head of Service with first-hand information on the performance of staff in these Assemblies.

Also present were the Chief Director of the OHLGS, Mr. James Oppong Mensah, the Regional Co-ordinating Director of the Western Region, Mr. Frederick Agyemang and Mr. Peter Asante, The Head of Human Resource Department, OHLGS.

The Head of service addressed the staff followed by an open forum during which Staff were afforded the opportunity to have their working concerns addressed.

The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. John Agyare, in his welcome address thanked the Head of Service for gracing the Municipality with his visit He expressed appreciation for staff posted to the Municipality and further acknowledged staff for their effort towards the Assembly’s performance during DPAT assessment.

Speaking to the gathering, the Head of Service stressed on the following;

1. The need for staff to eschew active participation in partisan politics in accordance with the regulation on political neutrality of staff of the Local Government Service (LGS) or face the ramification thereof
2. The emphasis on the need to ensure continuous hard work, professionalism and improvement in every Performance Assessment.
3. He cautioned against the creeping culture of indiscipline among staff and directed for the reintroduction of the biometric clocking system to curb some of these challenges and noted that Coordinating Directors must be gatekeepers.

Issues raised during the open forum revealed gaps in working conditions of staff; understaffing of some departments; non-mechanisation staff paid by Internally Generated Funds (IGF), inadequate working logistics and, lack of capacity-building programmes. The Head of Service noted that management will expedite action to address these concerns.

The Ahanta West Municipal Assembly on 1st August ,2022 held a staff durbar to discuss several observations made by management during the just ended Dpat assessment. The programme was also held to give staff the opportunity to make suggestions, contributions as well as observations during the assessment.

The Ahanta West Municipal Assembly on Thursday 28th July, 2022 held an Exit Conference with DPAT Monitoring Team at the Municipal Assembly Hall. In attendance were the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. John Agyare, Mr. Daniel Kanyage, Municipal Coordinating Director, DPAT Monitoring Team and Departmental Heads of the Assembly.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Ahanta West Hon. John Agyare, Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Daniel Kanyage and all the  various Heads of Departments within the Assembly on Wednsday 27th July,2022 met at the Municipal Assembly Hall to witness the entry conference with the DEPAT 6 Monitory Team.

Members of the Monitoring Team includes: Mad. Marian Agyeinyo, Mr. Alex Ferka and Mr. Jerry Amo-Brown. Below were pictures from the conference.

The Executive Committee of Ahanta West Municipal Assembly held its second meeting on 21st July,2022 at the Municipal Assembly Hall.

Issues discussed includes recommendations made by the various Sub Committees within the Assembly. Members further made some recommendations which would be discussed at the next General Assembly meeting.
