The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ahanta WEST Municipal Assembly, Hon. Ing. Ebenezer Aidoo, together with the Member of Parliament for the Ahanta West Constituency, Hon. Mavis Kuukua Bissue, on Sunday 1st February, 2026 has commissioned a newly renovated steel bridge linking Busua and Dixcove communities.
The bridge serves as a major access route for residents in the area. However, its previous deteriorated state posed serious safety risks, especially to pedestrians. The poor quality and damaged steel structure made the bridge particularly hazardous for tourists, pregnant women, and the sick.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Ebenezer Aidoo described the project as “a symbol of hope that has removed fear and restored safety for commuters in the area.” He explained that the reconstruction was prioritized under the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), emphasizing that infrastructure development remains a key pillar of President John Mahama’s administration.
He noted that the swift reconstruction of the bridge was a top priority for the Assembly, the Member of Parliament, and the government. “Your patience has given birth to excellent work that will open the community to development and trade,” he stated. He further urged residents to take full ownership of the facility to ensure its protection and long-term use.
The Member of Parliament, Hon. Kuukua Bissue, also expressed her appreciation to the contractor for the timely execution of the project. She noted that the improved bridge would significantly boost tourism in the area and across Ahanta West. “I am still pushing for more development in the constituency, and all I ask from you is your prayers,” she added.
She also called on miners in the area to cooperate with government efforts to curb illegal mining, encouraging them to take advantage of the Cooperative Mining Scheme, which offers a structured and sustainable approach to small-scale mining.
Additionally, she appealed to traditional leaders (Nananom) to remain united and plead with them to lease lands for development rather than selling them outright.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Nana Sena Akuba, Queen Mother of the Ahanta Traditional Council, expressed gratitude for the project, stating that it had brought great relief to residents. She thanked both the MCE and the MP for ensuring the community now has a safe and reliable bridge.
The contractor, Mr. Kofi Ackah of Ackben Construction, also expressed his appreciation to the MCE, the MP, the Assembly, and the government for the opportunity to undertake the project, assuring them that the work was delivered as promised.
