On Tuesday 20th, January, 2026, the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly had a stakeholder meeting with Owners of stalls,containers and other institutions along the Central Business District. The purpose of the meeting was to communicate Assembly’s decisions, educate stakeholders on their responsibilities, and ensure orderliness, cleanliness, and public safety along the highway.<\/p>\n

Key Issues Discussed and Directives Issued were as follows:<\/p>\n

1.Allocation and Use of Lockable Stores<\/p>\n

Some individuals currently occupy more than two or three stores and rent them out to others.
\nThe Assembly emphasized that priority must be given to local traders and occupants, rather than allocating stores to people coming from outside the district such as Takoradi or Kumasi.
\nMeasures will be taken to review the allocation of stores to ensure fairness and compliance with Assembly policy.<\/p>\n

2. Cleanliness of Surroundings by Institutions and Stalls<\/p>\n

All stalls and institutions along the road are required to keep their surroundings clean at all times.
\nWaste should not be allowed to accumulate before action is taken.
\nThe Assembly will intensify monitoring to ensure compliance with sanitation regulations.<\/p>\n

3. Pavement and Roadside Trading<\/p>\n

Traders selling on pavements and unauthorized areas were directed to relocate to approved locations.
\nThe Assembly warned that it will not tolerate pavement trading, as it leads to congestion and public complaints. Enforcement actions will be taken against defaulters.<\/p>\n

4. Market Day Cargo and Offloading of Goods<\/p>\n

On designated market days, cargo trucks will not be allowed to offload goods indiscriminately along the highway.This measure is to reduce congestion, improve traffic flow, and enhance safety for both traders and road users.<\/p>\n

5. Demolition of Old Structures Near Barclays Bank<\/p>\n

The old Barclays Bank structure, together with the public toilet located behind it, will be demolished.
\nThis action is to create adequate space for parking, especially during market days.<\/p>\n

6. Traffic Directional Changes<\/p>\n

Effective February, traffic movement along parts of the highway will be regulated.
\nOn Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, there will be one-way traffic arrangements to ease congestion.
\nRoad users and traders were advised to cooperate with traffic officials.<\/p>\n

7. Nationwide Clean-Up Exercise and Enforcement<\/p>\n

The Assembly informed stakeholders that clean-up exercises and enforcement actions are ongoing nationwide. Any form of obstruction, filth, or illegal structure will be dealt with according to the Bye-laws. The Assembly will not hesitate to remove obstacles and enforce regulations where necessary.
